What this involves.

Steps have to be consistent to feel right and to be safe, which means every rise and run needs to match from top to bottom. We measure the grade, lay out the steps, and build a compacted base so nothing shifts under load. We set each tread level and uniform, whether we are placing solid stone slabs or building treads from block and stone, and we tie the steps into the surrounding walkway or wall. We slope the treads slightly to shed water and finish the edges cleanly. The result is a run of steps that walks comfortably and holds up to daily use.
